Qantas launches the 3rd Spirit of Youth Awards, open to all Australian Artists, 25 years or younger.
From May 15 to July 31, 2006, Australian artists (25 and under) are invited to enter their work for the chance to win $5,000 in cash, $5,000 in Qantas flights and mentorships with leading lights of the international creative community.

SOYA is delighted to announce that acclaimed film director Phillip Noyce will be joining the impressive line up of SOYA '06 mentors which also includes world renowned designer Marc Newsom, fashion icon Peter Morrissey and Elizabeth Ann MacGregor, director of Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art. As success stories in their chosen fields, the SOYA mentors know that getting a break and having the right doors opened can launch a creative career.

"It's great to be able to see an artist's work develop and to have made a small contribution to making it happen. SOYA helps artists at a critical moment in their career." Elizabeth Ann MacGregor, SOYA 06 Pictures Mentor.

This is now my third year with SOYA and it's great to be part of a program which assists young creative people. I really enjoy the fact that SOYA has given me access to straight forward, clever and very practical helpers. Marc Newsom, SOYA 06 Object + Industrial Design Mentor.

With over 12,000 entries last year, SOYA is fast becoming a leading award for Australia's top emerging artists. So far Qantas has gifted over $200,000 to fast-track the creative careers of talented young Australians. Previous SOYA winners have used their prize to work in Marc Newson's Paris studio; introduce their fashion label overseas; shadow direct on a feature film alongside Gillian Armstrong; and travel the world - from Moscow to Milan, Tokyo to Marseille.

Winning SOYA has made me stop and take stock of where I'm at with my art. It's taught me the importance of exposing myself to both the business and creative ends of the industry, not only locally, but at an international level. Flordeliz Bonifacio, SOYA '05 Moving Pictures Winner

SOYA is a part of Qantas' 'Sharing the Spirit' community initiative, which aims to help young Australians connect with their dreams. After the success of SOYA 2004 and SOYA 2005, NOISE - the media-based arts project that profiles artists (25 and under) in the media - will again be coordinating the seven arts categories of SOYA.

SOYA has provided a major boost for young people wanting to achieve their creative dreams and we look forward to again helping more young Australians develop their talents. Neil Ross, Qantas Group General Manager, Marketing
