Koops wins the biennial $20,000 Keith and Elisabeth Murdoch Travelling Fellowship for VCA Art Graduates.
Annika Koops graduated from the VCA with a BA (Fine Art.Hons) back in 2004. The Murdoch Fellowship must be used to travel and study abroad - Annika intends to travel to the Netherlands to commence her Master of Fine Art.

Koops work, which can be seen at the Despard Gallery website is concerned with portraiture. In many of the images there is an unsettling impression that these eye catching nudes are not as sweet as they first appear.

Associate Professor Su Baker, Head of VCA Art said What was obvious to the judges was the impact of the winning work and its telling presence. While there was a diverse and disparate range of views, the winning work was the one they kept coming back to. It resonated with a complex mix of allegory and literalism and was also a subtle and challengin exploration of the tensions and subtle correlations between painting and photography.

The work of Annika Koops and the other short-listed finalists is on show at the VCA Margaret Lawrence Gallery, at 40 Dodds Street, Southbank (Melbourne) from March 16-31.
